North American Wine Bloggers Conference: Destination Washington 2010!

The second North American Wine Bloggers Conference is now behind us, but what great memories are left! Over 250 wine bloggers, new media innovators, and wine industry leaders from all over the United States, Canada and Europe converged on the Sonoma and Napa Counties the weekend of July 24-26, 2009.

This three day symposium was built on the success of the 2008 conference, which was also held by the generosity of many of the Sonoma/Napa wineries and vintners. This opportunity brought us all a unique opportunity to learn about and discuss the intersection of wine with the world of new media including blogging, social media, and most of all a wonderful opportunity to put faces to the many names we have been blogging, emailing, Twittering and Facebooking with!

And let me add, the State of Washington was well represented with an assortment of wine bloggers and industry representatives, such as: Eric Hwang Bricks of Wine, Sarah German Pepper Bridge Winery, Elizabeth Martin-Calder Walla Walla Wine Alliance, Catie McIntyre Walker Walla Walla Wine Woman, Sean Sullivan Washington Wine Report, Bean Fairbanks Wine Beer Washington, Colby Voorhees Wine Peeps, John Sosnowy Wine Peeps, Kori Voorhees Wine Peeps, Marcus Pape WineCHATr.com, Shari Brumbach Woodward Canyon Winery, Grace Doyle Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, and Ryan Pennington Washington Wine Commission. Apology in advance if anyone was left out (Let us know and you will be added!). And 2010 is proving to be even more exciting - -

As they are moving the North American Wine Bloggers Conference to Washington State! It was a tough call as the choices for the 2010 conference was to be held in Woodinville or Walla Walla. Well, the votes were cast, collected and counted and with the support of the Washington State Wine Commission, Walla Walla Wine Alliance and Chateau Ste Michelle, the 2010 North American Wine Bloggers Conference will be held in Walla Walla! Our host hotel will be the historical Marcus Whitman, a beautiful hotel that is located in the heart of downtown Walla Walla. The organizers and the sponsors are working to set up a great conference with thoughtful and energizging topics, including visits to local wineries, wine and food pairings, and excellent seminars on the world of blogging.

4 attendees to the WBC out of over 600 possible wineries in Washington doesn't represent a strong industry showing, at least not in my opinion. Hopefully, bringing the WBC10 to our state will increase awareness and participation from more wineries and move them beyond just having a web site to having an online presence.

Hi Eric and many thanks for stopping by. You have a good point that only four attendees from Washington State to the WBC does not represent a strong showing. But then again, this was the second WBC and we have to remember that wine blogging is still in its infant stages when you put it up against the "traditional" wine media. I was just tickled there actually was representation from Washington. And there isn't any doubt that with the WBC10 in Washington it will absolutely expand. And also note, we need more people like yourself to make these observations as it acts as a good shot in the arm.
Cheers!
